Now, let's talk about famous people that came from the Gotra of Surana.

Surana Shri Tolaramji – Churu

He had interest in the surch of antiques. He created ‘surana Pustkalaya’, in which there are books of Sanskrit, Hindi, English and Persian languages. In addition to it he had 2500 hand written books. He was member of Churu Municipal Board for the whole life. In 1913 he became a member of legislative Assembly of Bikaner. His son was Shubhkaranji. He was also Member of legislative Assembly after his father”s death.

Surana Seth Ridhkaranji

He was prominent Marwari in Calcutta. He established Marwari Chamber of Commerce in Calcutta and Jain Swetamber Terapanth Sabha. He remain President of it life long. He was honarary Magistrate of Hawra. In V. 1975, Government created an advisory board of three members to control the cloth market. He was one of them.

Surana Seth Tilokchandji – Churu

He was the President of Vice-President or Secretary of Marwari Chamber of Commerce, Marwari Association. Jain Swetamber Terapanth Sabha, Jain Swetamber Terapanth School, Vishudhanand Sarswati School and Hospital, Marwri Trade Association. Churu Panjrapole, Oswal Sabha and Oswal Youth Samiti. He had his business at Churu and in Bengal.


Surana Seth Bachhrajji – Bagalkot


He was born in V. 1929. He was honourary Magistrate of Bagalkot for 5 years, and was Municipal Councillor.

Surana Seth Raichandji

He was second son of Seth Virdhichandji Jain Swetamber Terapanth Vidhyalaya was created by his efforts. He was its president.

Surana Seth Shubhkaranji

He was the adopted son of Seth Tolaramji. He maintained Surana Library. He was member of Municipal Board Churu, Compulsory primerry education Committee, for many years. He was Jury of Bikaner High Court, Honourray Magistrate of Churu, Vice President of ‘Sarva Hit-Karini Sabha Churu, and Assistant Secretary of she Jain Swetamber Terapanth Sabha Calcutta. He was member of Bikaner Assembly in 1928-29.

Surana Shah Ratansinghji – Udaipur

He was a brave warrior. He remains on high posts of Udaipur. When Jagirdar Umraosingh Revolts he went with the army. There was a furious war. He won the battle. And Umraosingh lost his life. He was honoured and Maharaniji allotted him Jagir of few villages.

Surana Shri Joravarsinghji – Udaipur

He controlles the Meenas in V. 1915. When he was Hakim of Chitore, he raised its revenue from 50 thousand to one lack. The Maharana honoured him on several occasion. His son was Shri Daulatsinghji.

Surana Seth Kanniramji – Zalrapattan

He left Nagour and arrived Kota. He became Asstt. To Diwan Madansinghji Zala. In V. 1894 when Zalavad became saperate from Kota, at that time he arrived Zalavad with Madansinghji. He played an important role in the management of Zalavad. A title of ‘Nagarseth’ was awarded to him by Shri Madansinghji.

Surana Shri Baldeosinghji – Kishangarh

In V. 1925 there was a famine. He opened free shop of grain for the victims of famine. When Maharaja Kishangarh heard of it he also supported him with his godowns. He died in V. 1926. In V. 1940 Kishangarh Maharaja claimed for the help he did in the time of famine. After all they made a compromise with the Maharaja.

Surana Shri Amarchandji – Bikaner

He was a brave and warrior. He was Diwan of Bikaner State. He fought many wars. In v. 1862 Maharaja Soorsinghji ordered him to attack Japtakhan of Bhatner. He defeated him. Maharaja pleased and honoured him with the title of “Rao” and promoted him to the post of Diwan.

Surana Manakchandji – Bikaner

He was elder brother of Shri Amarchandji. He was the Commander of the army. In V. 1874 Maharaja Soorsinghji promoted him to the post of Musahib of the Army. In v. 1894 he defeated Shekhavat Juharsingh. When Sardarshahar was founded in the memory of the marriage of Prince Sardarsingh, the king ordered Manakchandji to manage and construct the new city wall. He did his duty and also built a Jain temple of Lord Parshvanath there. Maharaja honoured him with the estates.

Surana Shah Fatehchandji - Bikaner

He was son of Shah Manakchandji. He was a successful Comander and great politician. He became Musahib of the state in V. 1905. English Commanders also praised his bravery. He promoted to the post of Diwan in V. 1923.

Surana Shri Kesharisinghji

He gave his services at the tie of Maharaja Ramsinghji of Bikaner. In V. 1894, when Bidavat Kanhasingh started creating nuisance in the state, then Kesharisinghji arrested him in V. 1894. He also arrested a revolutioner Sardar of Sujangarh. He helped Captain Faster in arresting dacoits Juharji and Dungarji. In V. 1902 Maharaja Bikaner appointed him Hakim of Ratangarh.

Surana Shri laxmichandji

In V. 1873 he got victory over Ratangarh. At this time Maharaja Bikaner honoured him with the title of ‘Rao’. In V. 1881 when Surajmal, the Thakur of Deva, started creating nuisance, laxmichandji managed things and took staps maintain peace. In V. 1901 he was promoted to the post of Diwan and honoured with awarding Elephant, a Chokda of pearl, and certificates. In V. 1911 when he defeated Thakur Ishirisingh, the Maharaj awarded him the right to wear gold on feet. Golden-Kada, and estates. He died in 1914.

Surana Shri Hukumichandji

He was younger brother of Amarchandji. He was a brave warrior. His whole life remains in the battlefield. He was appointed Sub-Inspector of Police in V. 1872. In 1873 when Thakur Prithvisingh of ratangarh revolt, at that time Hukumchandji kicked him out, at that time Maharaja Surajsinghji promoted him to the post of Diwan.

Surana Seth Tolaramji

He was a brilliant person. He established a big library at Churu, where more than 2500 valuable hand-written books are kept.

Surana Seth Ridhikaranji – Calcutta

He had founded Morwari Chamber of Commerce at Calcutta and was president of it, till death. He had established All India Jain Swetamber Terapanth Mahasabha. He was honourary Magistrate of Hawrah.

Surana Seth Subhkaran – Bikaner

He was elected member of Dhara Sabha of Bikaner in V. 1975. He was Jury of High Court of Bikaner and honourary Magistrate of Churu.

Surana Seth Shohanlal

He founded ‘Kesar Balika Vidyalaya’, built Dharamshala at Calcutta and Delhi, and built Jain temple of Lord Parshvanath at Delhi, where there are installed deities of 24 Tirthnkars.

Surana Shri Pannrajji – Sirohi

He prayed for the exemption of 31 heavy taxes, but king of Sirohi did not care. Therefore he took permission from the Maharaja of Jodhpur and founded a new colony near Shivganj. Jodhpur Maharaja not only exempted from taxes but also honoured him with the title of ‘Nagar Seth’and presented a Siropav. When king of Sirohi heard of it, the he also exempted from paying taxes. He built many temples and Dharamshalas.

Surana Seth Bachhrajji – Bagalkot

His business was of silk and cotton cloth. He was honourary Magistrate and Municipal Councillor

Surana Shri Anandraj

He was born in V. 1948 at Jodhpur. His father Seth Chandmal Surana was always took a lead in every social work. He was patron of Pinjrapol Jodhpur. Shri Anandraj joined National Movement at the age of 32. Maharaja Bikaner busished him from the Bikaner State. He took active part in Quit India Movement. He was sent to Jail a number of times. He was member old Dhara Sabha of Delhi from 1952 to 57. He took part in the Satyagraha to save lakhs of animals in Shelter house. He arranged camps also in Hisar to save the animals. He went door to door to collect money for the relief from famine in Bihar and Rajasthan. At the time of Bhagwan Mahaveer 2500 Nirvan Mahotsav year, he saved 2500 cows from the shaletter house and handed over to the Gaushala.


There is a place called Surana Jewelers in Jaipur, Rajasthan. They were invited by Maharaj Sawai Jai Singh II in 1735.


Also in the present day, Devandra Surana, an industrialist, is famous for the Surana Group which produces many products.
